Uttar Pradesh (UP), the most populous state of India, has a long tradition of education and is home to more than 30 universities that includes four central universities, 20 state universities, eight deemed universities, two IITs, one IIM in Lucknow, one NIT in Allahabad and several polytechnics, engineering colleges and industrial training institutes.

Most of the universities and the institutes in UP conduct their own entrance exams and accept national level entrance exams too for admissions to their programmes. Following are the main entrance exams in Uttar Pradesh that need to be taken for admission to various colleges and universities in UP:

JEE Main
The Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main) has replaced AIEEE from 2013 onwards as the single admission test for admission to engineering colleges (including all IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs) across Uttar Pradesh as well as India.

UPSEE/ UPTU-SEE
The Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) or Uttar Pradesh Technical University-State Entrance Examination (UPTU-SEE) is conducted by the Central Admission Board (CAB) which is constituted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.Candidates for admission into any degree or postgraduate degree programme (recognized as technical qualification) within the institutions of Uttar Pradesh are required to appear for this examination.

UPCPMT
The Uttar Pradesh Combined Pre Medical Test (UPCPMT) is conducted for admission to various medical programmes such as MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS and BUMS programmes offered by various government and approved Medical, Dental, Homoeopathic, Ayurvedic and Unani institutes of Uttar Pradesh. 

UPPGMEE
The UP Post Graduate Medical Entrance Exam (UPPGMEE) is conducted by King George's Medical University (previously known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University – CSMMU), for admission to postgraduate medical courses for around 400 seats in state medical colleges and CSMMU.

UPCMET
The U.P Combined Medical Entrance Test (UPCMET) is conducted by U.P. Unaided Medical Colleges Welfare Association (UPUMCWA) for admission to MBBS courses offered by the member colleges. The UPUMCWA is a consortium of unaided non minority medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

UPPGMET
The U.P Post Graduate Medical Entrance Test (UPPGMET) is conducted by UPUMCWA (U.P. Unaided Medical Colleges Welfare Association) for admission to M.D./ M.S./ Post Graduate Diploma courses offered by the member colleges. The UPUMCWA is a consortium of unaided non minority medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

AMU CAT
The Aligarh Muslim University Combined Admission Test (AMU CAT) is conducted on a national level by the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for enrolling candidates into its MBBS and BDS programs,

CAT
One of the toughest MBA entrance exam that needs to be taken to qualify for admission to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow and other well-known management institutes in UP like IMT Ghaziabad.
