The Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj Kanpur University (CSJMKU) was established in 1966 under UP State Legislature Act for providing higher education to all and anyone in general and people of Kanpur in particular. Kanpur is one of the biggest industrial metropolis cities in Uttar Pradesh. Since its establishment the university has grown manifold.  Now university has 170 colleges affiliated with it. Nearly 2.75 lac students get enrollment every year in different affiliated colleges and university departments and courses in different streams like arts, commerce, sciences, social sciences at different levels, viz, certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree etc. The university is promised to improve the quality of education in affiliated colleges and associated departments. For   the purpose an In Service Teacher's Orientation and Research Centre' was established in the University. The courses offered by CSJM Kanpur University are recognized from government and industry for the purpose of employment as well further studies both in India and overseas
