Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University (RMLAU) was earlier known as Awadh University. It was established on the 25th of July, 1975 in Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh. It was founded for providing quality higher education to people living within its reach in particular and to all in general. The successful conduction of academic activities, continuous endeavor for quality improvement, commitment towards perfection and excellence in the University would, beyond doubt, turn this University into one of the leading Universities of the nation.

After 10 years of its establishment the university got the status of residential university. The University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi has defined Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University as an affiliating university. The university is also eligible to receive financial assistance from University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The university provides affiliation to colleges for offering courses at under graduate level. At campus level, the university offers many numbers of courses, arts, science, commerce, etc. The courses are offered both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
